Wedding Flowers by Season

There are wedding flowers for all seasons. Everyone likes roses, the fragrant flowers of love and nowadays they are grown all year round. The colour range is being extended every year but white or cream always look elegant. Adding another colour can look equally pretty. It all depends on choice. That’s the key: to make it special and personal to each and every bride. Most commonly available flowers include roses, oriental lilies and Singapore orchids.

Greenery is limitless. Loops of bear grass look delicate and last longer than loops of flax. Camelia leaves hold well and are available in the garden all year round, the same applies to the leaves of evergreen magnolia.

Peonies are another favourite in bouquets but flower in spring and are finished by December. Cala lilies are available in summer and stretch through the early part of winter. However, for something different, white proteas are gorgeous and dry well for the bride who wants to keep her bouquet, green and white chrysanthenums are simple and elegant in winter but are often overlooked as a flower for bouquets.

One of the most useful flowers is carnations. Yes, common old carnations. They are available in heaps of different colours and/or can be sprayed with flower paint to any colour of the rainbow. On top of that, they are great as a filler; in table arrangements, bouquets and large arrangements for church or garden.

Often a bride’s bouquet is the last thing to be decided. That’s a pity because they enhance the bride’s dress and are critical in photographs. Effort and thought but into the shape of a bouquet and/or type of flowers used, make a happy bride and that’s the ultimate.
